Greenville Business Magazine 2009 November : Page 65One of our favorite and most unsung gadgets is the Apple TV. Simply stated, the Apple TV is an iPod for your television. It is a computer with out a keyboard or display and only a very simple hand held remote with which to control it. What it delivers is your entire iTunes music, movie, tv show, and podcast collection to your television along with the ability to navigate through and play your media using an interface like you might expect of a living room appliance. The controls are simple, intuitive, and allow you to buy, rent, and play movies and TV shows from the iTunes store without getting up from the couch. Sure there are ways you could sit at a computer and watch missed shows for free. You could even nerd out and build a media PC for this purpose which once all of the proper software was installed and running would allow you to stream videos from a variety of services. What the Apple TV does is reduce this process to the simplicity to something that’s less complicated to use than a Tivo. You plug it in, give it a name, tell it about your home network, enter your iTunes account info, and everything else is automatic. You may end up being the first person on your block to have one as part of your home entertainment center, but you won’t be the last. ■ NOVEMBER 2009 | GREENVILLE BUSINESS MAGAZINE 65 Apple TV Publication List |
